Beati Paoli
It was a great night for music at Mars Café, and beer specials. The Millstream tasted incredible!
The show got kind of a late start, as we waited for the sun to set a bit, and for the band to get set up
for a special acoustic performance (their first ever). In the meantime I played a new album I picked
up at the Record Collector in Iowa City, the new single from Panda Bear of the Animal Collective. It's
a 15 minute tune called Bro's, probably my favorite song of the year thus far.
Once the band got settled, we dove right into the LP's they brought. Every record the guys from Beati
Paoli brought in was a first for Scented Vinyl…which was kind of surprising. We played albums by:
David Bowie, Pixies, T-Rex & Heatwave. I also played an album from the audience by "The United
States of America" I think that ended up being my favorite of the night.
The funny thing about doing this show is how all the albums seem to flow together, with no plan at
all. Right after we played the T-Rex album, I started playing a fantastic record from Iowa City band ft
(the Shadow Government), "Guns of August". We played the first two tracks, and during that time
Beati Paoli was looking the record over, and realized there was a cover of an early T-Rex song by
Marc Bolan on the album "Organ Blues", so we played it.
After a number of records, a plate of nachos and more than a few Millstream Ale's we got to the
interview.
Then came the best part of the show, Beati Paoli's first ever acoustic performance!! Featuring Ryan
on Cello, and Scott playing some bongos. They played 3 songs, that aren't on their EP "Penny
Dreadful", so you had to be there to hear them…unless you know how to download mp3's…because
the songs were recorded and will also be posted here shortly.
