After a string of great bands on the show, last night was a little different…I was joined by Boonie and his wife Beth, who brought in some of my favorite records to date. I swear the music just keeps getting better and better.
Last night we played records for at least a solid three hours, the highlight being Boonie's copy of The Misfits second 7" "Bullet"...We also played albums from Jets to Brazil, Procol Harum, Crowded House, Mountain Goats, Neil Young, The Seconds, Alan Parsons Project, more Nick Cave, Grinderman, Grubby Ernie and Dr Dre.
Boonie has been involved in the Iowa music scene for over 10 years now; starting out catering for musicians such as Harry Connick Jr. in Ames, and working his way to Director of the M-Shop, a job his brother would eventually take over and over and do wonders with. Boonie has also been the bass player in Why Make Clocks, putting out two albums and doing a lot of touring with the band.
Besides being involved in the Iowa music scene, Boonie has also been a fan of local music going back to the days of Grubby Ernie and 35” Mudder. He knows a lot about Iowa music, and has seen a lot of changes over the past decade…all of which we talk about during the interview.
Currently Boonie and his wife Beth have been working on a new cook book for the Iowa music scene, entitled "THE 515 AISLE: A SCENE FROM THE KITCHEN". The book is still in its early stage as they compile recipes from artists around the state. I think the idea for an Iowa music cook book is fantastic, and will be end up being a unique staple in Iowa music. The more we talked about the book, the more exciting the idea became. Beth and I talk all about it in the interview…so download it now.
If you’re interested in contributing to the cook book, send me a message and I’ll get you in contact with Beth and Boonie. It’s an easy and fun way to be involved with something that is going to be memorable.
