Brooks Geenen
For only the second time in more than 50 sessions, this week on the show I had a musician from outside the state.
Brooks Geenen is relatively new to Minnesota’s music scene and is trying to make a name for himself amongst a
thriving community.  In a state that boasts both Dylan and Prince as legends, Brooks has a bit to live up to.

He is getting a great start by getting out on the road and playing as many shows as possible around our neighbors to
the north, but this Monday was his first trip to Iowa…first of many.  Brooks will already be coming back this Friday, May
18th for a show at Java Joes and a few more around the state after that.  For this one though he had to bring down a
little more than his guitar, well just a few records.

The night was full of singer/songwriters, which I have to believe helped some of the Drake students cram for finals this
week.  Here is some of what we played…

Elliott Smith – Either/Or
Bob Dylan – Nashville Skyline
Beck – Sea Change
Leo – Kottke – Mudlark
John Lennon – Imagine
Handsome Furs – Plague Park
William Elliott Whitmore – Song of the Blackbird
Wilco – A Ghost is Born
Kings of Leon – Because of the Times
Ben Kweller – S/T
The Flaming Lips – At War With The Mystics

Before getting started with the records, we again stopped by Sonic Factory Studios to record a couple of live acoustic
songs, which you can download now for free.  Also, stop by the
Sonic Factory website, where you can check in on what’
s going on whenever you want as they are now streaming live video from the studio.  It’s a pretty cool new thing that I
can see catching on pretty quickly with bands everywhere, it’s a good way to stay in touch with the fans.

You can find out more about Brooks Geenen at his
website, and listen to a few songs at his myspace page.  His debut
EP “Away” was just released, and he is already working on the follow up so check back often for news and show
updates.  Also download the interview now to find out a bit more about Brooks and what drives him musically.
