Last night Andy Fleming and Mike Fitzpatrick of Brother Trucker didn’t bring in the most records that I’ve seen on Scented Vinyl(although it was close), but they certainly brought in a stack of some of the best albums I’ve seen since Johnny Reeferseed was on the show. We really had a hard time choosing what to play, and had a lot of fun doing so.
The highlight for me though was a pleasant surprise, I’ve been seeing Fat Tire pop, and now Mars Café has it! And I must say; one of those giant bottles holds a lot of beer, delicious beer from Colorado that has finally arrived! Enough about beer though, because for almost three hours last night we were surrounded by the best music of any coffee shop in Des Moines.
We got right into their records because there were so many to pick from, and I didn’t have to play any of mine because we had a lot of the same albums. I tested the sound with Dylan and The Band live “Before The Flood” and the night never really changed from there, except when we played Peter Tosh “Mama Africa”. Here is some of what we’ve played…
Neil Young – After The Goldrush The Jeff Beck Group – Beck Ola Willie Nelson and Friends – Live Lynyrd Skynyrd – Second Helping David Bowie – Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust Tom Petty – Hard Promises Bruce Springsteen – Nebraska Joan Baez – Blessed Are… Peter Tosh – Mama Africa
During the interview we talked all about Brother Trucker’s last three albums, their involvement with Trailer Records and the new album “The Flyerover”, which is going to be released by the end of the year; find out all about it by downloading the interview…
Also catch Brother Trucker live, they play so often there really is no excuse not to. Find out when they are playing at www.myspace.com/brothertrucker , and don’t forget to download a couple of free live acoustic tracks that they performed on Scented Vinyl in the Sessions page.
