Bryan Baker

looking more like Harry from Dumb and Dumber; I broke half of my front tooth off while flossing Sunday, don’t ask.  So I
felt a little goofy going up to Mars Café, especially since Bryan Baker and I had a night of political music planned.

We had a night of “protest” music planned in honor of the election.  We weren’t really protesting anything,  there’s just a
lot of protest music out there, so we thought we’d play some.  The greats were represented of course, with Dylan and
Neil Young on hand; up to some more resent protest songs from The Lips and Wilco.  The only problem was my ailing
record player.  We had a constant buzz in the beginning, so I had to drive home and grab my turntable, and we didn’t get
to play all the music we had planned.

Here is what we played…

Flaming Lips – At War With The Mystics
Pink Floyd – Final Cut
Oingo Boingo – Dead Mans Party
Bob Dylan – Oh Mercy
Jefferson Airplane – Volunteers
Kate Bush – The Dreaming
The Who – Who’s Next
Arcade Fire – Neon Bible

The highlight for me was being able to play one of Dylan’s better 80’s albums at a time that made since, the song
“Political World” is one of my favorites of his.  I was also happy that Bryan brought in The Who, as I don’t have any Who
albums and the one he had is the one I want most.  Bryan likes to right political songs himself, so we had a lot to talk
about and he knew a lot on the topic.

Bryan Baker is a singer/songwriter from here in Des Moines, but the name might not sound familiar as he doesn’t play
live that often, that is to say live at a café or a bar.  He does play live weekly though, on-line.  Kaklick Martin is Bryan’s
Second Life persona; a songwriter that helped establish a growing music scene in Second Life.  We talk all about it
during the interview…
