Cashes Rivers
Last night the planets were aligned so that you could see Jupiter and Venus, right by the moon…one of the
coolest things I’ve ever seen in the sky.  I’m thinking the planets had something to do w/ the great night ahead
for those at Mars Café; almost an award for the sweet name.  Things were perfect, one of my favorite shows
since starting Scented Vinyl.

My special guest,
Cashes Rivers brought in some terrific albums and provided some great music conversation.
Not only that, we recorded two songs at the Sonic Factory that are going straight on my iPod.  It’s a bummer
that we didn’t get this one on tape, as it featured my first ever Scented Vinyl performance!  A bunch of us joined
Cashes on stage for his last song “Atoms”, providing hand clams and hums, it was magical.

Before the magic and the interview, we played the records.  Here is what we played…

Sufjan Stevens – Greetings From Michigan
The National – Boxer
The Beatles – Help!
MxPx – Punk Rock Show 7”
Bonnie Prince Billy – Lie Down in the Light
ELO – Eldorado
Silver Jews – Lookout Mountain, Lookout Sea
Neutral Milk Hotel – On Avery Island
Bob Dylan – Nashiville Skyline
William Elliott Whitmore – Latitudes
Bright Eyes – Lifted, or the Story in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground
The Queers – Move Back Home
Poison Control Center – 50 Million 7”

Cashes Rivers debut EP “The Trees Will Clap For Us” was one of my favorite local albums of 2008, and one that
got a lot of plays on my Capital 106.3 show.  The EP was recorded and produced by Mike Huss of Cleo’s
Apartment,  a band that I’ve been really excited about.  We talk all about the EP and where he’s at with the next
album during the interview…one thing you may notice is Cashes saying he’s had a writer’s block lately, which I
don’t believe as he played a song written within the week, which was great; his mom agreed.
