One of the best parts of doing Scented Vinyl each week is getting to know bands that I had previously never heard
of; I guess that’s the point of doing the show.  This was the case last night when I met the guys in Electric Junction, I
had never even heard a note of their music.  What I discovered was four extremely nice guys with great tastes in
music who are creating great music of their own.

Like a lot of people around Central Iowa recently, the four in Electric Junction went right for the Fat Tire beer, I
decided to stick with the Grain Belt; that’s the kind of selection Mars Café has to offer.  But enough about beer, we
got into some great music right off the bat.  Brian, Brock, Chris and Dan each brought in a few records to play, so
they took turns on the stage talking about them…with tremendous support from the crowd.

The highlight for me was their copy of Cream’s “Disraeli Gears”, I have a copy of “Wheels of Fire” and it was nice to
see the psychedelic art work that appears on Cream’s two greatest albums.  Much of the night consisted of music
that has influenced Electric Junction along the way, including one of their main early inspirations Widespread Panic.

Here is some of what we played…

Widespread Panic – Space Wrangler
The Beatles – White Album
Neutral Milk Hotel – Aeroplane Over The Sea
The Faint – Danse Macabre
JJ Cale – Troubadour
Albert King – I Wanna Get Funky

After all the records I got the chance to really find out what Electric Junction is all about, and just how I hadn't heard
of the band despite them playing around Des Moines for the past few years.  We also talked about their debut
album “West of the Mississippi” and what they have been working on recently, you can find out for yourself by
downloading the interview right…wait for it…now.

Also visit their website to see when and where they are playing next, they have a Halloween show coming up at the
Vaudeville Mews and some other dates as well and of course you can listen to some of their music here as well…
