Much has changed for Electric Junction since the first time they were on the show; in the past 6 months they’ve recorded an album, added a member, and revamped their sound all while losing a little bit of hair.
With the Drake students gone and some sprinkles outside; I had to match the music of the night with the mellow feeling inside Mars Café. Luckily we had just the right records to do it with, and the right amount of Fat Tire. We kicked things off with “Box of Rain” by the Dead, just because it seemed appropriate. After that though, I decided to brighten things up a bit for the rest of the night, starting with “Here Comes the Sun”.
Here is some of what we played…
Andrew Bird – Mysterious Production of Eggs Grateful Dead – American Beauty White Stripes – Elephant Stephenwolf – Live The Beatles – Abbey Road Broken Social Scene – S/T Kings of Leon – Aha Shake Heartbreak Paul Simon – One Trick Pony Arcade Fire – Neon Bible Iron and Wine – Shepards Dog Postal Service – Give Up Bruce Springsteen – Born To Run Jim Croce – You Don’t Mess With Jim Willie Nelson – Red Headed Stranger Pink Floyd – Wish You Were Here
During their last interview on the show, we talked a little bit about what Electric Junction's plans were for the rest of ’07 and the beginning of ’08. They were looking to do something different; they were looking to grow a bit as a band. I would say they accomplished what they were looking for. With the addition of a new member and some keyboards, Electric Junction sound more polished and rejuvenated.
After releasing their sophomore album “Dead…Or In California” at the beginning of May, the band hit the road and had the chance to experience life in a van. Making it out to Colorado and back and playing almost 20 dates across Iowa in between, all while two of the members plan weddings.
Now that the album is out and the tour done, the band is ready to take a short break for the summer and “rejuvenate” again. You can hear all about it in the interview, also make sure to grab the two new songs we recorded at Sonic Factory Studios.
