Lips and meeting Nick Cave, to discovering we are having another child, this year has been amazing. Not to mention the almost 50 Scented Vinyl sessions we had at Mars Café, all completely different and memorable. We closed out our year with a band that had a pretty great year themselves…Finding The Warren.
From playing the Warped Tour this summer, to finishing their debut EP, Finding The Warren had a pretty good year, for only being their second as a band. We talk about their big gig, and recording at Avenue Audio during the interview, which you can grab now with two acoustic songs. This was their first time ever playing acoustic, so like past SV sessions, these songs are completely unique and show a different side of the band.
I felt like since this was my last show of the year, we had to play some killer records. However with the temperature being 1 degree at the time of the show, the music also had to match what was going on outside. Thankfully the guys brought down some records that accomplished both, those matched with mine made an evening of great music.
Here is what we played… Kings of Leon – King of the Rodeo 45” Tijuana Christmas – Boarder Brass Bing Crosby – Marry Christmas Beatles – Abbey Road Weezer – Blue Album Broken Social Scene – You Forgot It In People Envy Corps – Dwell Led Zeppelin – House of the Holy Shout Out Louds – Our Ill Wills Okkervil River – Stand Ins Family Unit – We Are The Fuckers Vol. 1 William Elliott Whitmore – Hymns For The Hopeless
Thanks to everyone that was on the show this year; it has truly been an amazing experience meeting so many in the Iowa music community. There is so much great music in State, and it’s important to support and celebrate all aspects of it. This music scene is right where it needs to be right now…something big is waiting to happen. Slipknot had a number one album this year…a number one album! Recorded right here in Iowa. Next time someone tells you are music scene sucks, prove them wrong. We have more bands itching to be number one, we just have to get out there and support them.
