Floodplane
It’s beginning to feel like winter here in Iowa is never going to end; three weeks in a row now it’s felt like we’ve been
actually snowed inside Mars Café.   Luckily Floodplane are more dependable then the mailman when it comes to doing
what they love, playing live music, and for the first time last night they did it acoustically.

We probably set a record for the amount of records played on the show, once we got warm and comfortable inside, we
didn’t want to go back out.  The cool thing about the vinyl we played wasn’t just the amount, but also the quality and
uniqueness in the records we had the opportunity to hear and share with everyone else.

It’s hard to nail down a highlight for me, as there were a few records that actually made me drool, well not really.  But I
would say playing “Music From The Big Pink”, and “Exile on Main St.” in the same half hour was enough to make any vinyl
junkie shake.  We kind of took a trip back in time with the music, as we hardly played anything past 1973 besides paying
tribute to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”.

Here is some of what we played…

It’s A Beautiful Day – S/T
Paul Desmond – Skylark
Deodato – Sprach Zarathustra (Theme to 2001) 45”
Blues Brothers – Briefcase Full of Blues
Deep Purple – Who Do We Think We Are
Devo – Duty Now For The Future
The Rolling Stones – Exile on Main St.
Grateful Dead – Bears Choice 1
Dr. John – Desitively Bonnaroo
Michael Jackson – Thriller
Traffic – Mr. Fantasy
Stevie Wonder – Fulfillingness’ First Finale
Les McCann & Eddie Harris
Journey – S/T
Dire Straits – Communique
The Band – Music From The Big Pink

Floodplane have been playing around the Iowa music scene for over a decade now, and seem to have no real interest in
bringing their music into a studio.  Their debut album “Ready For Takeoff” was even recorded live at People’s in Ames.
Even without a studio album, Floodplane has developed quite the following here in Iowa and even had the opportunity to
play the Wakarusa music festival a couple of years ago.

Just because they don’t plan on entering a studio anytime soon, doesn’t mean they don’t have plenty of new songs to
play…all the more reason to go catch a live show.  Usually the band plays electric, well I should say always, as last night
was their first ever acoustic show.  You can grab those songs for free now, plus find out what they’ve been up to over the
past 10 years in the interview.
