Last night was the last stop on a 5 week tour for Jacob Tyler Wolfgang, traveling with the group Casados. The show seemed to be a fitting end to what he said was an exhausting tour; we played a lot of records in the comfort that is Mars Café, and we found that we share a similar taste in music, that is everything but Bono.
Jacob only brought in a few albums to play, but one of them happened to be the fantastic Sun Kil Moon “Ghosts of the Great Highway”. If you haven’t heard this album, I encourage you do buy it. This album set the tone for what would prove to be a night of listening to some of the greatest singer/songwriters of the past 50 years; from Bob Dylan to Bonnie “Prince” Billy, the music on this night was perfect.
Here is some of what we played…
Bob Dylan – Nashville Skyline Matt Sweeny & Bonnie Prince Billy – Superwolf Neil Young - Iron & Wine – Sheppard’s Dog Beach Boys – Smiley Smile White Stripes – Icky Thump Pearl Jam – 45” special release Sun Kil Moon – Ghosts of the Great Highway
Fairly new to Iowa’s music scene, Jacob Tyler Wolfgang put out his self-released debut EP “Bless Our Burning Heart” this year. The album came out in May, and he has been playing live almost non-stop since then. During the interview we talk about touring, putting out an album on your own and his transition from being a bass player in a band to the singer/songwriter he is today.
You can catch Jacob playing around the Des Moines area often, playing with other local musicians know for songwriting, such as Christian Krieg and Kate Kennedy. Download the interview for free right now; also check out his website to find out where Jacob is playing next www.jacobtylerwolfgang.com
