After nearly 10 months and more than 30 shows, last night was the last Scented Vinyl of the year. Throughout the year I’ve played hundreds of records, and only twice played CD’s; I made the exception for the new Envy Corps single (although I now have that on vinyl) and last night for Jordan Mayland.
Jordan has been involved in our music scene for a number of years now, in a number of different projects, most notably the band Keepers of the Carpet. He has been busy lately preparing three different releases for early 2008, which is why I made the exception to play some of his latest work with Keepers, Electronidoll and The Thermal Detonators.
Before we got to the CD’s though, I had the chance to show off some of my own record collection and take a stab at some albums that I thought Jordan might enjoy.
Here is some of what we played…
Sufjan Stevens – Seven Swans Flaming Lips – In A Priest Driven Ambulance George Harrison – All Things Must Pass Envy Corps – Story Problem EP Pavement – Crooked Rain Crooked Teeth Beach Boys – Pet Sounds Broken Social Scene Presents: Kevin Drew – Spirit If…
I decided to do the interview a little bit different this time, so we could incorporate the CD’s that Jordan has been working on. We started off talking about his solo work with Jordan Mayland & The Thermal Detonators, I found out the name comes from Star Wars quote, which is pretty sweet; and Jordan debuted two tracks off of the EP that he just finished the night before!
We were also lucky enough to preview tracks from the upcoming Keepers of the Carpet album “Just Set Fire To The Prize” and talk about Jordan’s work with his 3rd band Electronidoll. It was quite fun to be able to discuss the difference between the three different bands and compare and contrast the sound of each. You can discover the difference for yourself by downloading the interview now!
As an added bonus, you’ll also get all the new songs Jordan played during the interview, plus the live acoustic performance.
