The session last night got off to an excellent start; that is after we figured out how to get the needle to rest
gently on top of the spinning record to make some sound.  For that we must credit Josh Davis, of The Josh
Davis Band.

Until last night I had never seen  Josh Davis play live, despite his constant playing around Des Moines and the
fact that his band’s latest release “Bluebird” is absolutely fantastic…definitely one of the top releases to come
out of Iowa in 2007 (Along with Poison Control Center’s new album).

As the night went along, Josh and I started to figure out that we have a lot more in common than our love of Alt-
Country music…we both have young children, sweet wives’, love tattoo’s and had the privilege of attending the
fine schooling of Boone County.  Sitting there playing records with Josh was as comfortable as sitting around
the record player at home, enjoying a brew or something of that nature…

Josh only brought in one album, and he had to take it down from his wall at home, it was Ryan Adam’s
“Rock n’ Roll”.  Here is some of the rest of the play-list:

Waylon & Willie - Live
William Elliott Whitmore - Ashes To Dust
The Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers
The Strokes
Johnny Cash - I Walk The Line
Silver Jews - Tanglewood Numbers
The Envy Corps - Story Problem EP
White Hott (Des Moines band from the '80's
Ben Kweller
Ryan Adams

The Josh Davis Band pretty much always has some type of show on their calendar, which you can find at their

Before the show we stopped by The Sonic Factory to record a special studio song just for Scented Vinyl.

The Sonic Factory is an excellent recording studio located right behind Mars Café...

Josh Davis wrote this song just a couple of days earlier; this song is fantastic, and can only be found right here...
