Last night I broke a rule on the show that I thought I never would; we played a cd. It was for a good reason though…we played the entire new single from The Envy Corps “Wires & Wool”, which Matt Sepanic recorded at SoundFarm Studio’s. Matt brought in the cd, and absolutely nothing else, but we had a great time playing records from my collection.
I had such a great time doing last night’s show, it was definitely a little crazier then I’m used to, possibly due to the fact that Matt decided to drink 2 Rocket Fuel’s. Which if you’ve been to Mars Café, you know is equal to about 1 line of some fine Iowa crack. So he was amped and ready to go.
The highlight for me, records wise, was the very first one I played. Big Brother and the Holding Co. “Cheap Thrills”, which I picked up at the new Homers music for only $2.99!! The rest of the playlist looked something like this…
Velvet Underground – Heroine The White Stripes – Conquest The Envy Corps – Story Problem 7” CCR – Something off the Cosmo’s Factory Kings Of Leon – Charmer Arcade Fire – Intervention Okkervil River – For Real
Matt didn’t come to the show totally unprepared…he brought some friends and co-workers with. Jason Toomsen, the Studio Manager at SoundFarm, and Ryan Martin of the band If Ever Was A Fire, who are recording at SoundFarm right now… www.myspace.com/ifeverwasafire
We had a great time doing the interview, although it was somewhat hectic. Throughout the chaos though, Matt offers some very very good advice to bands throughout Iowa. And we talked a lot about the new Envy Corps album “Dwell”. Download the entire interview now.
