I like to think that I know a thing or two about music, that’s why I do what I do. So last night it felt the history of the music he plays. Matt Woods put on an incredible show for the people in Mars Café last night, after about 15 Millstream root beers (that might be an exaggeration).
Once again last night’s Scented Vinyl featured a bunch of music that you probably don’t get to hear that often, especially on vinyl. I came prepared with a couple of my favorite local records, and constants on the show, William Elliott Whitmore and Radio Moscow; and Matt Woods brought the rest…including an album by a man with 12 fingers, Hound Dog Taylor. Here is some of the play list…
Hound Dog Taylor – Beware of the Dog Muddy Waters – Rolling Stone Lowell Fulson Paul Jones – Pucker Up Buttercup Howlin Wolf – Big City Blues
The highlight of the evening for me really couldn't be narrowed down. I just had a great time learning about the music that Matt is into, and about the music that he plays. He taught me the difference between Delta Blues and Hill Country Blues, and we got to hear the difference for ourselves. You can learn about it too by downloading the interview…
Matt Woods is currently working on a new album that he hopes to have out by this fall sometime. For now thought, his current album should tide you over. “If I Was A Fish” is incredible Iowa Blues music, that stays true to what Matt knows and loves. You can also preview some of what his new album is going to sound like; minus the band…by downloading some of the live tracks he played for us at Mars Café…I will have them posted shortly.
