Miracles Of God
Every Monday on Scented Vinyl brings something totally different, there's really no way to predict how things
are going to go...such was the case this past Monday with Miracles Of God. The show clocked in at just
under 4 hours!! Now that's a local radio showcase!
A special thanks to Miracles Of God, who made the drive from Iowa City to Des Moines via shitty map quest
directions, which had them taking the scenic route to Mars Café. The guys came down very prepared for the
show, with a ton of great vinyl, their instruments and a slight buzz (I think). After enjoying some of the great
new sandwiches and a couple of the fine beers Mars has to offer, we got right into the music.
This show probably offered the widest variety of music yet on Scented Vinyl. We started off with the
soundtrack to "Night of the Living Dead" and a track by 45 Grave. Then switched things up drastically with a
track off of Prince's 1981 album Controversy, and some Yoko Ono, "Kiss Kiss Kiss". Things got even better
after that, when we got into some of their favorite records...including one by The Cows and one from the late
Hasil Atkins. Of the LP's they brought in, the highlight for me was their copy of Simon Joyner's new album
Skeleton Blues, of which we played "The Only Living Boy In Omaha." Fantastic stuff!
By this point we had already spent 2 hours playing records, and things weren't going to speed up from
there. The interview was great, and like the music section of the show, was the longest to date. We
covered everything from a nasty car accident a few years back, the guys playing with the Violent Femmes
and their thoughts on downloading music; which they are all for, and to prove it, they offer all of their music
for free on their website....go download some, it's great. www.miraclesofgod.net
