My Giant Spider
Interview / Songs
After a few weeks off, I was excited to get up to Mars Cafe and play some records this week; although I
wasn’t excited to venture out into the snow.  Luckily I was about 3 hours into the new remote starter that
we had put on the car, so I didn’t spend much time being cold.  The weather conditions for this session
were nearly identical to the way it was last November, when my guest was first on the show.

My Giant Spider technically made his first appearance on Scented Vinyl in the form of his band
Ski Bunny
Suicide
...(TJ has a knack for naming bands).  My Giant Spider is Tony Jefferson solo, although he doesn’t
always play it that way.  TJ put a name on the project to allow it to be open for people to join him; the
songs can be played alone with an acoustic guitar, or with a group that may include horns and drums.
While alone, My Giant Spider brings out the looping pedal and harmonica, it’s a cool show.  We talk all
about it during the interview...

Another thing I knew to look forward to on his return trip to the show, would be the great albums.  Ski
Bunny Suicide brought in some killer records, and so did My Giant Spider.  TJ had all the staple rock
records as a teenager, and they clearly played a big role in his development as a musician.  You can hear
the influence of the Stones and the New York Dolls in a lot of his songs.  Here is what we played...

Rolling Stones - Emotional Rescue
Rolling Stones - Satanic Majesties Request
Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed
Led Zeppelin - Houses of the Holy
Neil Young - Decade
New Wave - Now Only
Beatles - Abbey Rd.
Lynard Skynyrd - One More From The Road
Tom Waits - Mule Variations
Beach Boys - Holland
Devendra Banhart - What Will We Be
Andrew Bird - Nobel Beast
Envy Corps - Dwell
White Stripes - Icky Thump (mono)
Flaming Lips - Embryonic
