Punching Betty
Interview / Songs
The music being too loud at Mars Café is constantly an issue; if it’s not the drums then it’s the bass.  So
we love it when a band shows up with a couple of acoustics and a djembe or cajon.   Especially when that
band is usually plugged in and loud.  Rock bands can put on a great set inside Mars, if they do it right, and
last night my guests did.  The place was packed and we had a great time.

There have been a number of recently formed bands on the show, but Punching Betty is among the
newest.  Having only formed at the beginning of the year and playing their first show at the end of April.
Now a few months and a bunch of a shows later, the band is ready to get into the studio and record some
of the couple dozen original songs they have.  We talk all about it in the interview…

Over the past three years, my dad has only been able to make a couple Scented Vinyl sessions.  So each
time I tried to play some music that he would enjoy, bluegrass being his favorite.  I was happy to pick the
music for this beautiful Monday inside Mars Café; here is what we played…

William Elliott Whitmore – Animals in the Dark
RFD Boys – I
Rolling Stones – Exile on Main St.
Modest Mouse – We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank
Kings of Leon – Youth And Young Manhood
Cat Stevens – Buddha and the Chocolate Box
My Morning Jacket – Z
Tom Petty – Damn the Torpedoes
The Who – Meaty Beaty Big And Beefy
Bob Dylan – Highway 61 Revisited
White Stripes – Icky Thump
