Last night was a bit different for me. It was the first night in the past year that my wife and son couldn’t make the show (damn flu finally caught us); it was also the first night I forgot my trusty sheet for the tables. So starting the show I was feeling a bit off, luckily my guests were not…some sweet records and sweet music got me right into things.
The Teddy Boys made the trip from Cedar Falls not knowing what to expect from Scented Vinyl, so we were on an equal playing field as I didn’t know what to expect from them. One of the things I’ve noticed by having artists from around the state is there is somewhat of a division of bands from Des Moines and bands from the Iowa City/Cedar Falls area and elsewhere…that bridge needs to be crossed. Iowa is lucky to have the music we do, we just need to let everyone else know that.
Once again the records were in top form last night; the mix of music would make Pandora.com jealous. Here is some of what we played…
Dr. Dog – We All Belong Todd Rudengen – Something/Anything? Heart – Dog and Butterfly Animal Collective – Strawberry Jam Television – Marquee Moon Beach Boys – Endless Summer The Strokes – Is This It The National – Alligator Pavement – Wowee Zowee Flaming Lips – Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots Miracles of God – 45” The Replacements – Let It Be
After nearly four years together, The Teddy Boys released their debut album “Love After Dark” at the end of last year, and already things are changing. With the addition of another family member on guitar and vocals, the band is ready to grow. Now a five piece with multiple singers, they harmonize perfectly together despite their different sounding voices. Find out for yourself by downloading the acoustic tracks we recorded at Sonic Factory Studio.
Getting into a studio that fits can always be difficult for a band getting started, so like a lot of bands, The Teddy Boys decided to do it themselves. The new songs have been written and are ready to record, so the next step will be to record another album the DIY way, then getting out on the road and playing as much as possible.
