We’ve had a lot of firsts while recording at the Sonic Factory, from weird woodwinds to banana shakers.
But last night was the first time we had to mic the floor for tap dancing. Branden has been tapping for
almost 20 years, but has just started incorporating it into the band. I was telling everyone this morning about
how he could play guitar, tap and sing at the same time. The Atudes definitely pulled off their first ever
acoustic show, leaving me to wonder why I haven’t seen them play before; now I want to hear the same
songs cranked up a bit.
The whole sessions was great. There has been some new equipment brought into the Sonic Factory
Studio lately. I don't understand much of it, but I do know they are recording it and mixing it on some old
equipment that gives it a vintage radio feel. And I believe it's being mixed in Mono now, Jon and Skyler have
been experimenting with some new stuff and they appear to being having a lot of fun with it. Hear the
difference and find out all about The Atudes in the interview...
Three months ago, I joined Jack White’s Vault at Third Man Records. The membership came w/ a Dead
Weather EP and an exclusive Mono mix of Icky Thump. I received my Icky Thump hours before the
show, so I was excited to get to Mars to play it. My record was completely overshadowed though, by the
albums brought in by The Atudes…one of the better collections I’ve had brought on the show. Here is what
we played, I wish we could have played more…
The White Stripes – Icky Thump Mono
Herb Albert and the Tijuana Brass – Greatest Hits
Sammy Davis Jr. – I’ve Gotta Be Me
David Bowie – The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust
Syd Barrett – Madcap Laughs
Tom Waits – Small Change
Beatles – Revolver
Bob Dylan – Blonde on Blonde
Beach Boys – Surfs Up
