home and didn’t leave the house again until 6:30. Six hours inside with my wife and son was plenty for one day, so I was excited to get up to Sonic Factory Studios to start the show.
I was a bit productive during those six hours, I was ordained as a reverend so I can marry my friends in April, so that was exciting. Especially since my guest on the show is also a reverend. Ben Williams is the lead singer and guitarist for Truth Be Told, and band member that could make the show; which turned out to be fine since Ben brought in some killer records. Here is some of what we played…
Bob Dylan – New Morning Elton John - Tumbleweed Connection Steely Dan – Gaucho Steely Dan – The Royal Scan ELO – On The Third Day Linda Ronstadt – Simple Dreams Grinderman – S/T Al Di Meola – Elegant Gypsy The Beatles – White Album The Beatles – Abbey Rd. Cat Stevens – Teaser and the Firecat My Morning Jacket – Evil Urges Arcade Fire – Funeral The Beach Boys – Sunflower
This wasn’t Ben’s first trip to Scented Vinyl; he was actually on the show just about a month ago with his other band Lady Blue. That time the records were supplied by other people, so Ben wanted to make sure he had the chance to show off his favorites and talk about the music he loves. Influenced by the likes of The Dead, Phish and Widespread Panic; Ben Williams is drawn to follow in their footsteps. When he is not playing live with either of his bands, Ben and his wife get to as many concerts as possible. If the music’s good and it’s outside, expect to see them there.
Truth Be Told is a rather new band to the Iowa music scene, having only formed about 8 months ago. But none of the members are new to making music, and they’ve already been in and out of the studio for most of 2008, working on their debut album. We talk all about it during the interview, which you can download now along with the Lady Blue interview. And Ben played a couple of acoustic covers which you can also nab for free.
