Josh Boyd & The Good Goddamn's
|
When this show was booked a few weeks ago, I had just talked to Joshua Boyd about coming on and
doing Spoken Word. Josh has been writing poetry and doing Spoken Word around the Des Moines
and Kansas City area's for the past few years. With the addition of Brent Houzenga and Rob Seaberg,
Josh's Spoken Word reaches all new levels in both music and poetry.
Rob was in charge of bringing in the records, since he has such a nice collection at home. We got
right into the music with a great album and influence of the band, Converge "Petitioning the Empty
Sky". Things then got kind of crazy from there, with Thin Lizzy, Ralph Stanley, AIR, and a bunch of local
albums...William Elliott Whitmore, ft(Shadow Government), Vida Blue, Miracles Of God.
The interview was a great experience for me, as I was totally unprepared to interview the band,
everything I researched was about Joshua Boyd. So it was a great chance to really work on my
interviewing skills. We found out about the formation of Josh Boyd & The Good Goddamns, (which
happened very very recently). We also talked about everything else these guys are involved in...
Brent Houzenga has his hand in just about everything. From art and clothing design to the multiple
musicians he has worked with in the area. You can find out more about Brent at...

Rob Seaberg, or 'Metal Rob' has also worked with various artists around Des Moines. He plays guitar
in Ned Kelly, and has his own solo project Seaberg. Find out more about him here...

The energy during the performance was fantastic, the intensity in Josh's voice had everyone in the
Café quite, you couldn't help but be drawn into the lyrics. From what I understand the music in the
background was almost all improve...the way Josh, Brent and Rob communicate is threw the sounds
they are putting out and the energy that they create. The sounds that we get to hear are truly unique.
Josh has a brand new book of his poems out, with artwork by Brent Houzenga called "Another Long
Day in the Office of Repentance" Find out more about Joshua Boyd's Spoken Word at...
