Scented Vinyl has always been a family friendly show, my son helps out quite a bit with the set up these days. So I was delighted to see a studio full of kids when I showed up at Sonic Factory for this week’s session. My guests Snafu, seem to know just as much about Spongebob as I do…and Hilary Duff, unfortunately. We had a blast recording the interview and songs, one of the funnier sessions in recent memory.
The guys in Snafu were excited to dig out some of their old albums to play, most of which hadn’t been touched in years. I had the chance to play a couple of my favorites, but for the most part the music at Mars Café was made up of early influences for the band. Andy even went out and bought a new copy of Abby Road to replace his old one. Here is what we played…
Poison Control Center – When The World Sleeps Kings of Leon – Because of the Times Broken Social Scene – Spirit If… Queen – Sheer Heart Attack Adam and the Ants – King of the Wild Frontier The Beatles – Abby Road Elton John – Goodbye Yellow Brick Road David Bowie – Changes One Foo Fighters – One By One Lou Reed – Best of The Police – ZenyattaMondatta Pacman – Christmas album
After a special Christmas poem courtesy Andy and Pacman, Snafu took the stage. They’ve been recording a new album, and it was great to see that the new songs sound just as great as their first album. Things have changed quite a bit, and you can hear it in the music, but Snafu proves to be a Des Moines band nearing the top of their game. We talk all about the new music, band and more during the interview…
The most exciting part of the show was at the end of Snafu’s performance, they pulled Tina Haase of Bella Soul out of the audience for an impromptu performance. She helped sing a new song that will appear on Snafu’s upcoming album…it’s a bummer we didn’t get this recorded!
